The Boynton Beach Police Department’s Emergency Field Force Team (EFF) is a highly trained, rapidly deployable team dedicated to protecting life and property during large-scale or high-risk events. Guided by our mission to safeguard every member of our community, the EFF provides the specialized personnel, equipment, and tactics needed to respond to incidents that go beyond the capabilities of traditional first responders.

The EFF stands ready 24 hours a day, prepared to restore order, support lifesaving operations, and assist partner agencies when called upon. 

What Is the Emergency Field Force?

The EFF is composed of select officers who undergo specialized, ongoing training to manage situations such as:

  • Civil disturbances or crowd control
  • Mass arrest operations
  • Natural disaster response & humanitarian assistance
  • Search and rescue missions
  • Mutual aid support for county, state, and federal partners (including FEMA requests)

These operators train with advanced protective gear, tactical tools, search-and-rescue equipment, and less-lethal munitions—ensuring they are prepared for any scenario that threatens public safety.

When the EFF Is Deployed?

The EFF is brought into action when an incident requires resources and expertise beyond normal patrol capacity. Deployments have included scenarios such as:

  • EFF operators are trained to ensure public safety during major events, protests, or spontaneous gatherings. Their role is to maintain peace, protect participants, and prevent property damage while ensuring constitutional rights are preserved.
  • Natural disasters & severe weather events from hurricanes to flooding, the EFF plays a vital role in community safety and recovery.
  • EFF operators are equipped to locate and rescue individuals in distress, whether lost, injured, or trapped during an emergency.
  • If needed, BBPD’s EFF works jointly with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office EFF Team and can support regional partners during large-scale incidents or FEMA-related emergencies.

Training & Readiness

Preparedness is the foundation of the Emergency Field Force. To maintain peak operational capability:

  • EFF operators train monthly, focusing on civil disturbance response, mass arrest techniques, search and rescue, and specialized equipment.
  • Quarterly joint training takes place with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office EFF Team, enhancing interoperability and ensuring seamless coordination during multi-agency deployments.
  • Training includes scenario-based exercises, search grids, crowd-management drills, disaster simulations, and equipment certification.

This rigorous training ensures that every EFF deployment is handled with professionalism, discipline, and confidence.
