The Patrol Operations Division is the backbone of the Boynton Beach Police Department, providing 24/7 frontline law enforcement services to the community. As the most visible component of the Department, patrol officers respond to emergencies, prevent crime through active engagement, and work closely with residents to enhance safety and quality of life across the city.
Patrol Operations is primarily staffed by the Uniform Services Division, supported by the Support Services Division and other specialized units.
Core Functions of Patrol Operations
Patrol Officers are responsible for a wide range of essential duties, including:
- Preventive patrol to deter crimes, reduce accidents, and identify hazards
- Rapid response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Initial investigations and arrests of offenders
- Traffic direction and enforcement
- Maintaining public order during routine operations and major incidents
- Emergency services and life-safety response
- Accurate reporting and information sharing with other divisions
- Maintaining a visible police presence to enhance safety and deter crime

Patrol Operations is organized into four platoons—Alpha and Bravo, each divided into two squads. This structure allows for seamless, around-the-clock patrol coverage.
Incident Response
While most calls are handled by a single officer, certain situations require multiple units or the presence of a supervisor—such as domestic disturbances, crimes in progress, serious accidents, or high-risk incidents including:
- Serious assaults or homicides
- Sex crimes
- Missing children
- Hostage or barricaded situations
- Officer-involved incidents
Traffic Enforcement
Although the Traffic Unit focuses on traffic safety, all patrol officers are responsible for enforcing traffic laws impartially and assisting with crash investigations. Officers also support public safety campaigns—such as Florida’s child restraint law—by educating the public and taking enforcement action when necessary.
