Boynton Beach Police are investigating after a car struck two people standing at a Bank of America ATM this afternoon, critically injuring them. An 81-year-old woman was pulling her silver Toyota Camry into a parking space at the bank at 4793 N. Congress Avenue at around 12:55 p.m., when the vehicle went over the concrete parking stop. A 60-year-old woman and her 30-year-old son were at the ATM directly in front of the parking space at that time. The Toyota Camry struck the woman, pinning her against the wall. Her son tried to run into an adjacent flower bed but was pinned under the vehicle after it bounced off the wall of the bank. The vehicle then traveled back into the parking lot, where the driver was finally able to stop it. The woman and her son were taken to Delray Trauma Center with critical injuries. One of the woman’s legs was amputated. The driver was taken to JFK Medical Center for precautionary measures. Traffic homicide investigators are looking into the cause of the crash and have not yet determined if the driver failed to brake or confused the gas for the brake.
