15-000963 Battery on LEO/Resisting Arrest 1100 block SW 23rd Avenue
Officers responded to a traffic crash w/ injuries – involving a motorized scooter versus a fixed object. Upon Officers Schalk and James’ arrival, they made contact with W/M Ryan Ives, who was bleeding from his facial area and had several abrasions consistent with being in a traffic crash. During the Officers traffic crash investigation, Ives became uncooperative and his behavior became confrontational. Having a well-founded concern for Ives medical status (i.e. possible traumatic head injury), they instructed Ives to sit down until Boynton Beach Fire Rescue arrived. As Officer Schalk assisted Ives to sit on the ground; Ives spontaneously grabbed Officer Schalk’s legs and waist/gun belt in an attempt to resist officers’ control. After a brief physical confrontation; Officer Losehelder deployed her departmental-issued Taser® to subdue Ives. Ives was medically cleared at BMH and subsequently transported to the Palm Beach County Jail, without further incident.
