The Back Story

Jake Lemon is a 9-year old boy in Boynton Beach, Florida who felt a strong need to raise some money to help feed hungry kids here in town. Here is how it all started:
Jake: “Nana, I need a charity.”
Nana: “Hmmm… Why?”
Jake: “To make some money.”
Nana: “What do you need the money for?”
Jake: “Well, there are a lot of hungry kids here in Boynton Beach, and I need to make some money so I can get them some food.”
Nana: “How much money do you think you need?”
Jake: “$1,000, because they have families too.”
And so Jake’s Helping Heart was born…
After much brainstorming on how to raise money, Jake came up with the “Cupcakes with a Cop” event. He approached Rosemary Tynski, Owner of Sweet Surrender Cupcake & Cookie Café and asked if he could host his event at her café – “because she has the best cupcakes.” She agreed. On October 20th, he met with the Boynton Beach Police Department to see if he could have some police officers to attend the event. They also agreed. It was important to him that the money benefit kids within his town, so after he researched local food banks and soup kitchens, he chose the Community Caring Center of Greater Boynton Beach, Inc. to receive the proceeds. He met with the Board of Directors on October 28th to explain his vision.
The Event:

What: Cupcakes with a Cop

The CCC was organized by the Boynton Beach Ministerial Alliance in 1987 to serve the needs of the greater Boynton Beach community. It is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.

Their mission is to address the root causes of poverty by an innovative integration of social services programs, economic development (through small business incubation), nutrition education, and access to a healthy sustainable food center.
Kids get to know Boynton Beach Police Officers while decorating 2 large custom gourmet cupcakes. The interactive event allows kids of all ages to get to know local police officers at a friendly level, while raising money to feed local children and their families.

Owners, Mickey & Rosemary Tynski, have perfected how to make incredibly-delicious, freshly-baked cupcakes and cookies. They only bake with the best ingredients and never use mixes, preservatives, or Tran’s fats. They believe that customer service is the most important aspect of their business and that starts with consistently creating exceptional cupcakes and cookies.

About Jake

Jake says, “Sometimes when I think of something sad, a crazy idea comes to me on how to fix it. I don’t know where it comes from; it just pops into my head. Sometimes it isn’t too crazy of an idea and I get to do it.”
