Scam Alert: Burglary suspects pose as city workers to enter elderly woman’s home

Scam Alert

Boynton Beach Police recently responded to the home of an 84-year-old woman who advised that a man and woman knocked on her door and said they were Boynton Beach city workers. They walked into her home and said they were contracted by the City of Boynton Beach to “look at things.”

The woman took the victim back on the porch and talked more about the contract with the city as the man walked around the home. The “city workers” were there for 5-10 minutes and then left. The woman then checked her bedroom and noticed that her dresser drawers were rummaged through, however, nothing was taken.

This is a scam. The City of Boynton Beach DOES NOT contract with anyone who would need to enter your home.

The ONLY City of Boynton Beach employees who will come to and/or enter your home without an appointment are:

  • Police Officers
  • Firefighters/Fire Marshal
  • Community Standards Inspector (may enter your home if you live in a rental property and it’s the annual life safety inspection).

If someone comes to your home and does not have a City of Boynton Beach photo ID card, business card and marked vehicle parked outside, they are not employed by the city. Do not let them into your home and call 911.
