The Boynton Beach Police Department offers a Safe Prescription Medication Disposal Program to provide residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired medications. The program focuses on preventing prescription drug misuse and protecting the environment by ensuring medications are disposed of properly rather than being misused or flushed into waterways.
A secure medication disposal kiosk is located in the lobby of BBPD Headquarters, where community members can safely discard unwanted medications. The BBPD lobby is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 2100 High Ridge Road, Boynton Beach, FL 33426, and residents may visit during these hours to use the kiosk.
The kiosk accepts items such as prescription medications, prescription patches, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, medication samples, and medications for pets. For safety reasons, certain items cannot be accepted, including hydrogen peroxide, needles, inhalers, lotions, liquids, thermometers, and medications from businesses or clinics.
In addition to the year-round disposal kiosk, BBPD participates in two National Prescription Drug Take Back events each year. These events provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way for the public to dispose of prescription medications while also raising awareness about the potential abuse of prescription drugs. During the most recent event, BBPD collected and safely disposed of more than 74 pounds of medication.
