The Boynton Beach Police Department is now accepting applications for the 37th class of the Citizens Police Academy, which begins Wednesday, January 6, 2016.
Classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays for nine consecutive weeks. The program is free and open to residents and business leaders.
The program, taught by police officers, aims to educate participants about police practices and the legal system as it pertains to police work. The goal is to foster a deeper understanding of the police department through education and enhance community support of the officers.
Topics include: SWAT, K-9, Investigative Services, Crime Scene Unit, Traffic, community policing and the training and recruiting process. Some classes will include demonstrations by specialized units. Participants will also be able to ride-along with officers.
