Assistant Chief John Bonafair

Assistant Chief Bonafair, began his law enforcement career at the Pahokee Police Department in 1998. In 1999 he was hired as a Road Patrol Officer for Boynton Beach Police Department. In 2001, he worked as an officer in the street crimes unit and SWAT team until he was promoted to Sergeant in 2004. During his time as Sergeant, he supervised the Street Crimes and Narcotics Unit.

Assistant Chief Bonafair was promoted to Lieutenant in 2012 and was put in charge of a Road Patrol Platoon and carried ancillary management responsibilities over the K-9 and Marine unit. In 2015 Assistant Chief Bonafair was promoted to Captain and served as Platoon Commander and SWAT Commander.

In 2022, Assistant Chief Bonafair was promoted to Major, where he was made Commander of the Road Patrol Division. In 2023 he was promoted to Assistant Chief as Commander of Uniform Services.

Assistant Chief Bonafair is a 34 year veteran of the Navy Reserve and has served in two conflicts in Southwest Asia. He holds a Master’s degree in Leadership and Organizational Management from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a graduate from Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course.
