18-005148 2125 hours Aggravated Assault (Firearm) 1213 NW 4th Street
NIU agents reported via radio hearing semi-automatic rifle rounds being fired in the area of Cherry Hill Mini-Mart. The agents observed a black, newer model luxury sedan leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to catch up to the car on I-95S but lost visual of the car near the Congress Avenue exit. Other officers arrived on scene and did not locate any human victims; however, there were projectile holes discovered at 1213 NW 4th Street and 431 NW 12th Avenue. Crime Scene responded and recovered rifle casings.
18-005154 2306 hours Vandalism (City Property) 2000 NE 1st Lane
Witness reported that an unknown heavy-set white male exited his scooter and tipped over the “Smart Trailer” (Vehicle #4000). The suspect then got back on his scooter and rode south to NE 19th Avenue and then east where the witness loss visual. Officers placed the battery packs back inside the unit and had it towed to the station to be examined by the Traffic Unit. It is unknown the extent of the damage if any.
18-005159 2355 hours Burglary (Auto x 5) 700 Via Lugano Circle
Witness reported seeing a black male and a Hispanic male dressed in all black looking into vehicles. NIU agents in unmarked cars entered the complex and observed the males acting suspiciously. The males were detained and subsequent investigation revealed the males had entered into five (5) unlocked cars. The males, post-Miranda, advised they were checking cars to see which were unlocked and then entering them. The males (both 15 year old juveniles) were arrested, processed and released to their parents.

Unknown person broke into two vehicles between 1800 hours on 01/23 and 0645 this morning.
