15-034091 2023 hours lock Party(Noise Complaint) 209 NW 9thct (Sara Sims Park)
Officers responded to multiple “loud music” complaints as a result of a party being hosted within Sara Sims park. These complaints which were numerous in nature, were fielded as far east as Federal Highway. The PD was aware of the city authorized and permitted children’s party which was supposed to be limited to 200 guest, yet by 2045 hrs the party had swelled to well over 1000 people. The area in and around the park was congested with partygoers and area bystanders, many of whom were indulging in alcoholic beverages among other intoxicating substances. Additionally, an ad hoc car show sprouted up within the park and attracted additional crowds. Vehicles lined every major thoroughfare and street making it impossible for emergency vehicles to gain passage. After determining that the party was now in violation of the permit, as well as the inherent safety concern, the entire shift was mobilize to shut down the party. All calls were service were interrupted for well over 2 hours while the platoon organized the dispersal of the crowds.
Several officers used cameras to capture the extent and scope of crowd, both to document the incident and in case there is any future dispute by the permit holder. It should be noted that despite the number of people, the mass dispersal was incident free and no arrest resulted as officers exercised extreme restraint.
