An 18-year-old Boynton Beach man is being charged with eight counts of auto burglary after he broke into cars this morning on Ocean Inlet Drive and in the Murano Bay community.
Jorge Garcia was taken into custody just before 6:30 a.m. after a Delray Beach Police K9 found him hiding in bushes in the southwest corner of Murano Bay.
It all began at 5:19 a.m., when dispatch received a call about two auto burglaries on Ocean Inlet Drive. When officers responded to the scene, they observed Garcia, who took off running upon sight of their patrol cars.
Officers set up a perimeter and began searching for Garcia. With assistance from Delray Beach Police Officer Robin Bolanos and K9 Axel and the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office Eagle, Garcia was located hiding in bushes in the neighboring Murano Bay community. Garcia again tried to run from officers, but was quickly taken into custody.
Garcia is being interviewed by detectives, who are looking into the possibility that he is responsible for additional auto burglaries in the area.
The Boynton Beach Police Department would like to thank the Delray Beach Police Department and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance this morning.
