Two people suffered gunshot wounds Monday night after someone fired dozens of bullets into the air on Northwest 20th Court.
Julio Felix was sitting on the front porch of his home at 1990 N.W. 2nd Court at around 8:40 p.m., when he heard multiple gunshots coming from west of his location. Felix, 25, immediately ducked down and entered his home. That was when he realized he had been shot in the buttocks. He was taken to Delray Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Around 10 p.m., police were called to St. Mary’s Medical Center in reference to a second victim. Emanuel Austin, 32, said he in the area of Northwest Second Court and Northwest 19th Avenue when he heard the shooting and started running. Austin felt a little prick in his stomach but continued running. Once he felt that he’d run far enough away, he looked down and saw that he had been shot. He called his girlfriend, who picked him and brought him to the hospital. His injuries are also not life-threatening.
Officers observed about 70 shell casings in the roadway on Northwest 20th Court. They made contact with all of the residents in the area; however no one witnessed who was shooting into the air.
This is the second time in a month that people have been injured by someone carelessly firing a gun into the air. On July 4, a Boynton Beach woman was struck by a bullet while sitting on her front porch.
Police cannot stress enough the dangers of shooting a gun into the air. Bullets can easily travel far distances, and anyone nearby could be injured.
