Jerry Lucey stopped breathing the night of Nov. 2. His motorcycle crashed into a silver Honda that turned in front of him at 100 W. Woolbright Road. Jerry was ejected from the motorcycle and landed about 20 feet away from it. Jerry was unconscious and barely breathing when Officer Jonathan Acosta arrived on scene. Then his breathing stopped. That’s when Officer Acosta began chest compressions.
“He was there for my brother’s last breath and resuscitated him,” Jerry’s sister, Kaitlin, wrote to us. “If it weren’t for him and God, my brother wouldn’t be here.”
For his heroic and lifesaving actions, Officer Jonathan Acosta is the Boynton Beach Police Department Officer of the Month.
Jerry, 36, remains hospitalized with significant injuries and though he is “out of the woods,” he has a long recovery ahead of him. We’re told that he is in good spirits and hopeful to be home with his wife and two girls in a few months.
We look forward to the day he is well enough to be reunited with Officer Acosta! #bbpdpride
